October 8, 2007 — Just 4 Today

8 10 2007

Just 4 Today I'llJust 4 Today, I’ll drink my fiber twice (done once!), drink 2 liters of water (about 1/2 a liter), walk 5 miles (yesterday — none), NOT eat between meals & NOT take seconds.

Saturday morning I got my last permanent crown put in. And Saturday afternoon a huge chunk broke off the back of it. I was hoping to be done with this dentist (the guy who didn’t give our daughter Novocaine when he did her FOUR Fillings.)  But, I guess I’m not.

With Bombshell’s announcement that she’s reached and is maintaining her goal, I’m thinking about ways to  make Maintenance a more important part of this site.  And to keep Weight Loss important, once I reach my goal.

I’ve thought about splitting things into sub-blogs, but I think that would be a mistake.  We have too much to learn from each other (I think) no matter which specific path we’re on.   Because of the Very Real Risk of regaining weight, I think touching base here might be even more important to those in maintenance than it is in for those losing weight.

So, I’m thinking about the future of the site. And (I guess) I have to call the dentist.  And I’m going to the endocrinologist for my regular quarterly appointment.

What are you going to do today? Maybe we can play later?

Monday. Back to the grind, but at least the big annoying stuff is out of the way for now. Just a bunch of little annoying stuff. :-)
J4T I’ll drink my water, take my fiber, get a walk in (maybe short ‘cuz I’m wearing biker boots today), and ponder some of the stuff we chatted about Saturday evening.

Morning KB and FAR.

KB I’m sorry about you having to go back to the dentist. I don’t know if I could go to one that didn’t use Novocaine on four fillings. You know how I feel about dentist, but I’ve got to get to one soon myself. They’re right about fillings and crowns only lasting 20 years. Hope your experience won’t be too bad.

J4T I’ll drink 2 liters of water and do the normal puttering around the house. Got rels coming in this week so I’ll have a clean house for them to mess up.

Hope everyone has a good week ahead.

Just for today, I will eat healthy food to fuel my body, I will not eat in between meals, I will drink 8 glasses of water and go for a half an hour walk.

I love this web site! This is all very encouraging. I have been a yoyo dieter for years-gaining and loosing again and again. My last weightloss did last for about 2 years, but then slowly stress and bad habits got the best of me and the weight is back. This last weightloss lasted a long time, b/c I viewed it as a lifestyle change. I also felt so much healthier and less stressed. And what I dread the most about dieting is loosing the weight only to gain it back. I believe that you can live your life in 24 hour segments and just for today, if I commit myself to eat healthy food, not eat between meals and to go for a half hour walk, then I know I will have healthy lifestyle habits for today.

Have a great day!

With about 4 grand of dental work looming for myself, I am already apprehensive about a lot of things, but not having appropriate pain control isn’t one of them.

The dentist I had Friday a.m. is new (to me) at the office I go to, which has a reputation for being thorough, efficient, and very good on preventing discomfort.

All that said, I couldn’t help thinking while I was having the cleaning Friday that no one need use extravagant methods of torture to get information from most people– just threaten them with dental work !

Hi KB and Everyone.

I’ve been away for quite a while and thought I’d better check back in. Many things have been happening. I’ll update my website which is woefully behind times to get you all up to date.

I can’t believe your opening this morning, KB. It’s exactly what I need help with. MAINTAINING. I realized that I’ve been on my special cholesterol lowering diet for two years now and whereas my chol dropped dramatically after the first 6 months, it is now creeping back up. I had lost 37 pounds and my weight is also creeping back up. AND I had a scary episode about 2 weeks ago so I’m now taking Plavix and Zocor.

I’ll be doing some reading to try to get caught up. In the meantime, hello Everyone. Hope you all are well and happy.

Ick! dental work (which I also need to stop avoiding) and… OMG Puget, Plavix? Does that mean what I hope it doesn’t?

I’ve done the yoyo thing in the past. I did WW “points” for a while along with Mrs. Fetched… but when she quit, I quit too. Before that, I tried a SlimFast thing; it worked but I sluffed off & y’all know the rest. I seem to be having much better luck just avoiding cholesterol-laden chow, and the weight loss is a pleasant side effect.

Puget! I’m so glad to see you. I see Gooserock sometimes at the orange site, but only in passing. We haven’t talked in years. I miss you both.

I hope you are OK after your Scary Episode — and that it was more scary than serious. Are you doing OK on the medication? That you are taking both sounds very serious.

On the Maintenance thing, I think The Hacker’s Diet is a great way to address that. The author, John Walker has been maintaining his weight for over 20 years using the tools he shares there.

He’s given me permission to discuss the book in detail on this site. Which I’ve done from a weight-loss perspective (also VERY important) but I think I need to start looking to the future at the maintenance issues.

Hi Far. Hi KB. It’s really nice talking with you again.

My scary episode consisted of this: Very tight pressure like an iron strap around my chest, nausea, sweating, shortness of breath. I could talk and was able to swallow an aspirin that Gooserock gave me. It lasted about 10 minutes or maybe less. When it left, it left completely. Next day I went to the doctor who said it was probably heartburn and asked what I wanted. Did I want some medicine. I said, “How do I know? I’ve never had this before. You tell me what is wrong.” She prescribed Plavix and Lipitor but I talked her into Zocor instead because it’s supposed to help ward off alsheimers or other dimentias.

That was two weeks ago. Today I went for a treadmill test. My heart worked perfectly so that doctor (a different one) said it probably was an esophageal spasm and referred me back to my regular doctor.

Now I have to study up on what esophageal spasms are… But the Plavix and the Zocor should help with the cholesterol, I guess.

Oh, Puget — I’m so glad you had that stress test and that things look OK. The signs for heart trouble are so weird and scary. I’d have been a wreck waiting for the test.

I’m really glad you’re ok.
