September 10, 2007 — Just 4 Today

10 09 2007

Just 4 Today I'llJust 4 Today, I’ll drink my fiber twice (done once!), drink 2 liters of water (so far, 1/2 liter), walk 5 miles (yesterday — 3.3), NOT eat between meals & NOT take seconds.

I was thinking about leaving early and walking at the gym for an hour before work. But, after wandering around and visiting bloggy friends it’s a little late for that. Maybe I’ll have to go back to getting up at 5am again? Maybe not.

If waking up at 5am isn’t an option, I’ll have to think about it. I’m kind of getting addicted to walking on the beach before breakfast — I don’t want to give that up.

What are you going to do today?

I sooo appreciate your influence today. While I was on a trip all weekend, I indulged. (How about the Butterfingers AND Cheetoes in the afternoon!!) And I’m up a pound or so. And it’s like no big deal, because Just For Today I can cut back to normal. I know from experience now that putting on weight doesn’t mean it stays on if I behave myself Just For Today. Tomorrow, maybe I’ll behave myself again. Or not. I make a new decision every day. So far, so good. :)

Hi kansas — I know you can take that extra pound off without any trouble. In fact, it’s more likely to be water retention from all the changes in your routine than actual weight gain.

Just drink a little more water than usual and that’ll flush it out.

I’m sooo glad you’re back!

Thank you! Both for the welcome and the welcome advice. :)

Helloooooo! I think my online hiatus is over, the vacation and self-imposed break was good for the soul. Unfortunately, my travels also translated to major indulgences (al pastor tacos from Ensenada are irresistible to me). But….Just4Today I will get back on an eating schedule without any snacks between meals, drink 2 liters of water, dust off my ab roller thing-a-ma-bob and spend some quality time with it and my bouncy ball.

Hope you’re doing well! paz

Manee!! I’ve missed you. I was looking at bouncy balls over the weekend ($10.00 @ Marshall’s) and OF COURSE thought about you. Also, my brother & his wife had a baby last month and named him George Manuel (after my mother’s brothers) so now we’re practically related.

It is HARD to define a meal when you’re on vacation — schedules are so elastic, it seems like meals should be too. But, those good habits you built will kick in quickly — I know they will.

Boran2 said you guys got together. I hope it was fun. I envy all the face-2-face meetups you’ve had.

xxoo!!

OOOO

I weighed myself on the doctor’s scale in the staff room this morning and I’m officially NOT overweight. I’m exactly at the high end of normal for my height (or heighth as we say in Kansas)

BMI — 24.9 !!!

I’ve been below the mark on my bathroom scale. But I’ve put off celebrating until I could make it official. !!!

YAY! Congratulations on this amazing accomplishment, kb!

Your new family member has the coolest middle name ;-)
Meeting up with boran2 and his family was great. It was only for a couple of hours but I’m glad we were able to get together. I’m sure someday our paths will cross, never say never!

Congrats, again.

Hi, all. Rain and no walking today. I did get my exercise this past weekend. And I did drink my water.

Meeting with Manny was great. Maybe we’ll do it again next year.

Hi Boran2, we got a lot of rain too. But we drove to the track and managed to get in 3 miles (I did nearly 8 all together today)

I still can’t stop grinning about you and Manny getting together. He said he met your family — That’s so cool.

Hi FAR, I’m NOT so happy that you weren’t in the photo you posted at your place — I was hoping to get a glimpse of you!

(I’m just kidding)

Are you still on vacation?

KB–

Congrats ! Wonderful work ! Just remember–

Today is the first day of the rest of your life.

Tonight I am watching a horror movie– or, more precisely, a horror documentary, called “The Half Ton Man.” It includes an interview with a woman who was even heavier, but who was helped, over the course of 10 years, by Richard Simmons to lose 900 lbs.

This is another of “The Learning Channel’s” programs about morbidly obese people. Perhaps this would be overkill for some people, but I find that watching one of these things once in awhile is a great motivator. I don’t EVER want to get anywhere near.

This particular program talks about the theory of “the fat gene”– the idea that some people really are genetically programed to become huge.

Of course, most people will never get that big. But most of us have the same essential problem– we must realize that, for the rest of our lives, we must be vigilant or the weight will creep back.

So, every day, we must re-affirm our pledge, just for today.

catdog, before I started losing this weight, I TOTALLY avoided those stories. They were like a knife through my heart. I was so afraid that I’d keep gaining 20-50 pounds a year and find myself in one of those movies.

Now it doesn’t seem so inevitable — but I’ll always worry about the possibility.

As you said:

So, every day, we must re-affirm our pledge, just for today.

Which is why I PLEDGE that this site will always be here. If only for us to take a moment to do just that.
